The All India Catholic University Federation is a movement of university students with a vision for a new and just society. It is indicated by the abbreviation AICUF.
The SJEC AICUF unit participated at the AICUF Day Celebrations held at St Aloysius College on Sunday, 20th of March 2011. The day began with Holy Mass in the Aloysius Chapel at 9:00 AM, followed by the function in the auditorium. Fr. Almeida, the ex-State Advisor and Prof. Lourdswamy, Professor in English Department of St Aloysius College, were the dignitaries present for the function. AICUF Animators, Presidents and Secretaries were present for the function. Prof Lourdswamy gave us a brief introduction about the origin of AICUF and its activities throughout the state and country. Interactive sessions and quiz and games were conducted and every AICUF member participated in it very actively.
The inauguration of AICUF for the academic year 2022-23 took place on June 15, 2023, at Spoorthi Hall at 2.30 pm. The event was graced by Rev Fr Wilfred Prakash Dsouza, Director SJEC, as the presiding officer, along with Mr Audy Rego, President of All Banks' Christian Employees Association, Mangaluru, as the Chief Guest. Rev Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, Assistant Director SJEC, and Dr Rio D'souza, Principal SJEC, were the esteemed Guest of Honour. The program commenced with blessings and a warm welcome by Ms Florence Nishmitha, the Staff coordinator of AICUF SJEC, who introduced the chief guest. Rev Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta administered the oath to the new office bearers, and Dr Rio Dsouza addressed the audience, emphasizing the motto of AICUF. Mr Audy Rego shared his insights on social service and student engagement in helping the underprivileged, while the former office bearers were honored. Rev Fr Wilfred Prakash Dsouza discussed the objectives of AICUF and his views on uplifting society. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms Tina Benita Rego, President of AICUF SJEC. The event also included fun games organized by student coordinators to promote friendship and happiness, followed by refreshments for all attendees.
The
Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Division of DK
district organized an electoral awareness Human Chain from Talapady beach to
Sasihitlu beach on 7th April 2019. Student members of Electoral
Literacy Club (ELC), AICUF, NSS and many students from St Joseph Engineering
College (SJEC), Mangaluru, participated in this event.
Mr
Sudheer, Panchayath Development Officer (PDO) of Neermarga, was assigned the
responsibility of leading SJEC students in Chitrapura-Hosabettu cross beach
which was the location assigned to SJEC by SVEEP Division. The programme began with
Mr Sudheer addressing the students on importance of voting in the democracy. He
insisted the students to bring awareness about voting among the common people
in their native places and surroundings.
He also led the students to take voters pledge. Around 200 students
participated in the event as SJEC showed its solidarity in supporting the
efforts of district administration in spreading the electoral awareness. Dr Rio
D’Souza, Principal of SJEC, Dr Sudheer M, Dean- Student Welfare of SJEC, Dr
Prakash Pinto, Dr Vincent Crasta, Dr Ramananda HS, Mr Sathyenda Bhat and Mr
Vinoothan Kaliveer from SJEC were present and participated in the event.
The AICUF-SJEC
unit inaugurated on 27th September 2018 at 2:30pm in Bethania Hall.
Dr Judy Pinto, Former Vice Principal, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) &
Retired Professor in the Department of Hindi –St Aloysius College was the Chief
Guest of the program. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director-SJEC presided
over the function. Rev.Fr Rohith D’Costa, Assisstant Director, SJEC, Dr Sudheer
M, in-charge Principal-SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Head R&D were the Guests
of Honour. Ms Ivy Savia Dantis and Mr Swaraj Dominic Lewis, Coordinators of
AICUF, Mr Marshall Silveria - President of AICUF were also present on the dais.
Mr Marshall Silveria welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest. The
association was inaugurated by unveiling the logo. Secretary of AICUF Ms Raksha
read the annual report of association activities for the year 2017-18 and
proposed the plan of events for the current year. Dr Judy Pinto in her speech
informed that AICUF is not only for catholic but it’s for all religion
students. Dr Sudheer M advised the students to do more charity work under the
banner of AICUF. He also mentioned to celebrate one day as AICUF Day. Rev. Fr
Wilfred Prakash D’Souza in his presidential address appreciated the students
for voluntarily joining the association. Mr Desmond, Joint Secretary of AICUF
proposed the vote of thanks. After the inauguration, the Chief Guest gave a
talk on Human Values. In her talk she spoke about five values love, peace,
truth, right conduct and non-violence.
NSS and AICUF conducted drives to collect cash and materials for the
victims of floods in Kodagu district and Kerala state on 20th and 21st
August 2018.The amounts and materials collected have been disbursed as shown
below.
Cash Collected: Rs
1, 05,600/- has been handed over to the Diocese of Mangalore flood relief fund
on 25th August 2018.
Cheque: A Cheque
of Rs 5000/-has been handed over to the Diocese of Mangalore flood relief fund
on 25th August 2018.
Materials
collected have been handed over to the D.K District Administration on 22nd
August 2018.
The All India Catholic
University Federation (AICUF) unit at SJEC organized a formal inauguration of
its activities for the current academic session with the celebration of Holy
Mass in the College Chapel at 8:30am. The main celebrant was Rev Fr (Dr) Joseph
Martis, Director, St Joseph Inter Diocesan Seminary, Jeppu. Director-in charge
Rev.Fr.Ajith Menezes, Assistant Director Rev Fr Rohit D’costa, and Campus
Counsellor Rev Fr Joseph Cardoza also concelebrated the mass. After mass, Rev
Fr Joseph Martis unveiled the AICUF logo as a symbolic gesture.
AICUF is an
organization of catholic university students with a vision for a new and just
society. It links itself to the emerging needs and realities of universities,
the church and society. The members of AICUF stand for the service and
liberation of all human beings, as Jesus did, irrespective of caste, sex,
language and belief. Students who would like to develop an ethical and creative
approach to life, get involved in studies and activities linked to broader social
issues and struggles, with a view to become a constructive force within the
college or outside, are encouraged to join AICUF, irrespective of their
religion. The first meeting was scheduled on 7th Aug 2014, at 1:30
pm at Fr Fred Memorial Hall.
