The NSS and YRC (Youth Red Cross) wing of SJEC-Mangaluru had organized a fund raising campaign to provide financial assistance to help Mr Abhishek Prasanna, S/O Late Mr Gurudatt and Mrs Jayanthi, aged 15 and pursuing his education at NMPT - Panambur. Abhishek was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia-Blood Cancer). A total sum of Rs 1,38,650 /- has been raised from the College. Rev. Fr Joseph J. Lobo, Director - SJEC handed over the cheque to Mrs Jayanthi on 12th April, 2017. Dr Joseph Gonsalvis – Principal-SJEC, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director-SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal-SJEC, and Mr Godfrey E. Pinto, HR Manager – SJEC, along with all the NSS & YRC volunteers were present on the occasion. SJEC prays for the speedy recovery of Abhishek.
On the same day, an amount of Rs 10,000/- was handed over to Mr Shekar from Nitte, as financial support for his physically challenged children, Prajwal and Pratheeksha. The amount was raised as proceedings from the Food and Games Stalls that were installed by NSS and YRC during the SJEC Annual Athletic Meet Go-For-Gold 2017 on 16 February 2017.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized Integra-2016, a series of workshops on OBE and New SAR Format for Tier-II Institutions, from 19th January 2016 to 22nd January 2016, at the Spoorthi Conference Hall of the college. The main intention of conducting these sessions was to make the faculty members of SJEC aware about the process of OBE and to highlight subtle changes in the SAR format. The resource persons for the sessions were Dr Rio D’Souza-Vice Principal, SJEC and Dr Shreeranga Bhat, Associate Professor-Mechanical Engineering. Youth Red Cross & NSS Unit of St Joseph Engineering College for the academic year 2012-2013 was inaugurated on Monday 8th October 2012 at Bethania Hall.
Dr.Kirana Pailoor, In-Charge Officer, Blood Bank Father Muller’s Medical College Hospital, Mangalore, was the Chief Guest. Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal SJEC, Rev. Fr.Ajith Menezes & Rev. Fr Rohith D’costa, Assistant Directors SJEC, Mr. Rajesh K, Staff Coordinator for YRC and NSS, Ms Chrisia Sally Silva, President, YRC and Ms. Ruth Rodrigues Secretary, NSS were present on the dias. The staff coordinator of Youth Red Cross & NSS Unit, Mr. Rajesh K, welcomed the gathering. The programme began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song led by Mr. Sweethin Hartman and group.
Youth Red Cross & NSS Unit was inaugurated by Lighting of the Lamp by the dignitaries. Dr. Kirana Pailoor, in her inaugural address stressed about the importance of blood donation and motivated the students towards social service. Ms Chrisia Sally Silva, President,YRC briefed the gathering on activities planned for the current academic year. Mr.Vaishak Gatty, Treasurer, YRC led the Oath taking ceremony. Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal SJEC, felicitated the Chief Guest with a memento. Mr. Neil, Vice President, YRC delivered the vote of thanks. Mr Vishnu was the MC.
Mock drill of fire fighting system was held on 18th February 2013.Around 40 members of NSS and YRC participated. Ms.Ruth Edna Rodrigues has participated in District Disaster Response Team Training held at S.D.M College of Business Management, Mangalore on 4th and 5th August 2012.
NSS and YRC members arranged food and games counters during sports day held on 6th of March 2013. Four games stalls were handled by the members. Many students actively participated in the games. The food stall proved beneficial to the participants and other students. Ice Cream, Juice, Gola and Panipuri stalls were special attractions. The profit made from the games stalls and food counters is kept for a noble cause. Members of Youth Red Cross volunteered in the first aid counters.

A number of NSS members volunteered during the college day. They arranged chairs for the evening function and were members of the reception committee.
