FDP Cornea Series: Orientation for New Faculty - 18th July 2016

An orientation program for the newly joined faculty was conducted as part of Cornea Series under the aegis of Department of CSE on 18th July 2016 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in Spoorthi Conference Hall of Academic Block III.

Ms Ramya, Assistant Professor from the Department of ME, welcomed the gathering and introduced all the speakers in their presence. Vice Principal Dr. Rio D’Souza in his session  mainly focused on few issues like 1st year Academics, specific way of dealing with 1st year BE students , attendance issues and also on mentoring of students. He stressed on developing the bond between staff and students. He also focused on active learning and gave tips on how to change the mode of delivery while teaching. Session ended with brief information on Performance based appraisal, about OBE, and accreditation.

 Assistant Director Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa then took over the session and briefed about culture and motto of SJEC; stressing upon service and excellence. In his speech he asked the newly joined faculty members to practice discipline and to work for transformation of students.

Rev. Fr Joseph Lobo, Director of SJEC, took up the next session at 3:05 pm. He started with an activity where everyone was filled with new spirits. He welcomed everyone to SJEC family and also asked faculties to introduce themselves. In his motivational talk he encouraged all faculties to work for the betterment of institution, students, and the self. Rev. Fr explained the importance of academics and the various professional ethics to be followed by teachers.

The next session started at 4:00 pm and was held on the topic Counselling and Mentoring. The College Campus Counselor, Rev. Fr Joseph Cardoza, was the resource person for this session. Rev. Fr Cardoza spoke about the 5 ‘A’s of life, that is awareness, alert, alive, attentive and achieve. He also spoke about the importance of education, and various definitions of a ‘teacher’. Rev. Fr also highlighted the importance of mentoring and counselling and explained the different mentoring techniques.
