The Cornea Series of Faculty Development Program on Professional Communication was held on 20th July 2016 under the aegis of the Department of CSE from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm in the Spoorthi Conference Hall of Academic Block III.
The FDP Coordinator for the session, Ms Smitha Maria D’Souza, Lecturer from the Department of Chemistry, welcomed the Resource Person Ms Geralyn Pinto, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English at St Agnes College, (Autonomous) Mangaluru, and the participants of the FDP. She was florally welcomed by Ms Aleyamma George, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at SJEC.
The overall theme of the talk was Why is it important for teachers to have good communication skills? A Lot of information on communication in both receptive and expressive way was given. She also spoke about the tone of voice and body language of a good teacher and gave practical tips on effective professional communication like verbal and non verbal techniques, which will help students to understand and digest content in a better way. Few tips on professional etiquette for Indian faculty members and etiquette with other teachers were very insightful for all the participants.
As a token of gratitude, Mr Vinod D’Souza Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering handed over a memento to the resource person. The session ended by thanking all the participants for attending the session.
