SJEC, in its continued efforts to promote Industry – Institute interaction and partnership, participated in the Members Meeting of Kanara Entrepreneurs on 21st October 2016 in Bengaluru. A delegation from SJEC led by Director, Rev. Fr Joseph Lobo and comprising of Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal, Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean – Business Administration, Ms Sangeetha Ferrao, Placement Officer, and Mr Binu K.G., Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, represented the Institution in the meeting that was held in Hotel Grand Magrath at 6:30 pm.
In a gathering comprising of accomplished Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE) with roots in Mangalore, the SJEC team shared a presentation titled SJEC Connect. In the presentation, a strong pitch was made inviting Kanara Entrepreneurs to SJEC Campus for partnering in the objective of providing quality education to students and to help provide the much needed industry exposure to SJEC Students and Faculty.
Dr Rio D’Souza compèred the SJEC Connect session and commenced the presentation by introducing SJEC to the gathering. He opened up the talk by stating that SJEC is now a teenager and is seeking alliances to grow and move forward in its journey. Rev. Fr Joseph Lobo took over the podium to put forth the vision and mission of SJEC and presented to the audience the key strengths and achievements of its students and faculty. He placed before the gathering four avenues of partnership initiatives such as: i) Industry – Institute Interaction, ii) Placements, internships, and networking, iii) research activities and iv) Entrepreneurship initiatives and MOUs. Ms Sangeetha Ferrao presented the campus placement details of SJEC to the audience. Ms Ferrao stressed on the need for more core companies to visit SJEC and recruit the wide talent pool available in SJEC. The final segment of the presentation was delivered by Dr Prakash Pinto, who highlighted the accomplishments and challenges faced by the Business Administration Department of SJEC. Dr Pinto put forth a proposal seeking the participation of domain experts from Kanara Entrepreneurs in delivering lectures to students of Business Administration. A proposal was also put forward to start KEG-SJEC Chapter for Entrepreneurial Education which will offer a 30 hours certificate course on Entrepreneurship Development for the interested B.E., MCA and MBA students of SJEC.
The presentation was well received by the members of Kanara Entrepreneurs. The President of KEG, Mr Peter Anil Rego appreciated the participation of SJEC in this meeting and responded positively to the suggestion of signing an MOU to promote interactions with SJEC. The occasion allowed the participating delegates to interact with entrepreneurs from various fields of manufacturing, IT Services, and hospitality industry.
