The Department of Civil Engineering at SJEC organized a one-day Industrial visit to Master Plannery, Puttur on 7th October, 2016 for its V Semester students. Three Faculty members accompanied a group of 59 students.
Master Plannery produces innovative, strong, resistant and low cost precast concrete building elements such as blocks (both hollow and solid in different sizes and shapes), interlocking blocks, tiles, door frames and window frames, lintels and chejjas, fencing poles prepared using concrete which are named as CONCOOD (a name given for concrete that looks like wood). Students observed many products manufactured using concrete for example wardrobe planks, cupboards, stairs, furnitures etc and some special structures such as concood domes, ferrocement structures for gardens including water tanks, caves, decorative animals and birds etc.
Students also observed the process of manufacturing tiles, computer tables and also compacting concrete mix using needle vibrator. They also observed the low cost constructed houses. Mr Anand Kumar S. K., The Director of Master Plannery advised the students to come up with new innovation in producing products of concrete than wood, which are of low cost and save our forests. The exposure to industrial practices was an invaluable source of information as well as practical experience for the students.
