MBA - IIIC: An Interaction with Sri Sudheer Nayak, President of DSIA-Udupi

Dakshina Kannada district has a prominent presence of Industries related to tile, beedi, cashew kernel, coconut oil, food and beverages, and manufacturing activities like rubber/plastic goods, wooden products etc.  Dr Prakash Pinto – Dean of Department of Business Administration and Mr Vinish P, Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration visited Mr Sudheer Nayak, President of District Small Industries Association - Udupi on 19th January 2017 at his factory Sri Vinayaka Cashew Exports.

The visit was intended to strengthen the Industry-Institute interaction through MoU. The agreement will foster consultation services, organising soft skill training workshops for Industry staff and vice-versa, making use of domain expertise and experience of both Industry and academic personnel. The MoU will also facilitate the management students to carry out their internship at these organisations. The Discussion lasted about one hour where in Mr Sudheer Nayak spoke about wide range of issues in small industries and employability of today’s graduates. He shared his experience on Cashew business in India and the challenges encountered by the employers in smooth conduct of day-to-day operations. He also discussed about Labour welfare practices and managing key customers at SSIs. Dr. Prakash Pinto conveyed the Institution’s willingness to contribute to the growth of the business and assured R&D activities on a continuous basis. He said such interactions will synergise academic activities of the department and will help in mutual growth. He also expressed the interest to sign a MoU with DSIA, Udupi and welcomed all the office bearers to the Institution for a formal interaction. The interaction was followed by a factory tour where the cashew processing, grading and packing was explained.
