The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering organized a three day National Level Faculty Development Programme on “Electrical Switchgear and Maintenance” from 14th to 16th December 2017. The resource persons for the FDP included Mr C H Ganapathi Bhat, Technical Consultant, Mysuru, Mr V Subramanian, Senior Faculty, L&T Switchgear Training Center, Coonoor and Mr K Vasudevan, Senior Manager, ETAP Automations Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai.
The objective of this FDP was to provide knowledge on state of the art technology in Switchgear and Protection Schemes. Give the audience a view of the industry maintenance practices and hands-on training in recent power system simulation tools as well as improve Industry-Institute interactions.
The inaugural function was conducted on 14th December, 2017 and was presided over by Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC. The event was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. FDP coordinator Mr Subramanya K, Assistant Professor, Department of E&E welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest, Mr C H Ganapathi Bhat, delivered the keynote address. In his address, he stressed on the importance of developing hands-on skill in Electrical Machine Maintenance for reliable machine operation. FDP co-coordinator Mr Deepesh Kanchan, Assistant Professor, Department of E&E proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural function was followed by a technical session that focused mainly on providing practical knowledge and hands-on training on Electrical Machine Maintenance. In the post lunch session the participants were given an overview of preventive and breakdown maintenance practices in Electrical Machines Lab.
On 15th December 2017, Mr V Subramanian presented the importance
of selection of short circuit protection devices and explained the concepts of
Type 1 and Type 2 Coordination schemes. The Post lunch session consisted of an
hands-on training with power system simulation software E-Tap by Mr K
Vasudevan. The participants were trained on Short Circuit Analysis and Breaker
Sizing in Power System Lab. On 16th December 2017, an industrial visit was
organized to Karawali Switchgear Bikampady. Mr Dayesh Nayak, Design Engineer
explained about the manufacturing of LT panels and the design procedure in cable
routing and installation.
Participants for the FDP included both teaching faculty and laboratory staff from PACE Mangalore, SDMIT Ujire, KVGCE Sullia, MKIT Kundapur and SJEC Vamanjoor. The participants appreciated the organizing team for the informative training sessions and hospitality. The participants were presented with participation certificates at the end of the FDP.
