EELS association belonging to the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized the second series of Techathlon events. The Techathlon events are hosted annually in the month of February prior to SJEC TIARA Technical Fest. The first event of Techathlon consisted of a workshop titled ‘Igniting Young Minds Towards Community Based Projects’. This event was exclusive for the first year E&E students and was conducted in the Fr Fred Memorial hall on 12th February, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Alrick D’Souza, Project Lead, SELCO Foundation, Manipal. The workshop aimed at exploring new problem statements arising in the rural community in the domains of healthcare, water resources, tech-support, infrastructure etc. through brainstorming sessions. The student discussions yielded new ideas for problem solving in the rural domain which was well appreciated by the resource person and faculty coordinators. The students were trained on a step-by-step procedure in project management that included problem identification to the final product development for the benefit of rural India. The workshop was a learning experience for the first year students and aligned their thoughts towards the theme of 'Engineer for Society'. The faculty coordinators for this workshop were Dr Sheryl Colaco, Mr Deepesh SK & Mr Franco Menezes.
