The much-awaited glittering event - Hostel Day Celebrations 2018 was organized on 20 April 2018 at 6 pm in SJEC Open Air Theater. In line with the upcoming General Elections, appropriate permissions for the program was obtained from the authorities of Election Commission of India as the code of conduct was in effect.
The program began commenced with an invocation by the College Choir. The welcome address was delivered by the Convener, Dr Sudheer M; Dean of Student Welfare. In the view of coming assembly elections, the voters pledge was taken which was led by the Convener. This was followed by two students, Ms Jasmine (IV year E&C) and Mr Hanamant (IV year Mech) sharing their hostel life experiences.
The Chief Guest Dr Joseph Gonsalvis honored the academic toppers, year-wise and branch-wise, among both boys and girls. Delivering his speech, the Chief Guest shared his views stating that Hostel Day Celebrations was a good occasion to the students socialize and develop friendships. The family ambience in hostels will lead to students helping each other not only in their academics but also in sharing their emotions as they are away from their respective homes.
In the lead up to the event, many sports and games were held for hostelites. The Guest of Honor Dr Rio D’Souza honored the winners with trophies and certificates. Dr Rio D’Souza in his address shared sweet memories of his hostel life when he was pursuing his studies. He asked the students to form small groups/clubs in the hostels to promote their talents, which will surely help in their studies and personal growth.
As a mark of respect to their services, Dr Sudheer M felicitated Girls’ hostel staff and Guest of Honor Rev. Fr Rohit D’Costa felicitated the Boys’ hostel staff.
The President of the function Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza expressed his happiness in being present for the event. He asked the students to utilize the excellent academic ambience in the hostels and concentrate on their goals. He asked them to bring laurels to the College and to their parents and wished them success in the endeavours. Rev. Fr also honored outstanding achievers in sports.
The formal program was anchored by Mr Hansen D’Silva and Ms Michelle Serrao (IV year CS). Student coordinator Ms. Anusha Crasta (IV year E&C) rendered the vote of thanks to all dignitaries and students for their kind support in organizing the function.
Cultural program was conducted on the occasion and was anchored by Mr Froyd (IV year E&C) and Ms Pragathi (IV year CS). Students displayed their talents and put up a stellar show.
The Program ended with dinner and the dance floor thrown open with students grooving to the DJ.
