After successfully organizing two editions of eTIME – National Conference on Emerging Trends in Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SJEC brings to you eTIME 2017. eTIME series is an attempt to bring together a congregation of academicians, researchers, and industry personnel on a common platform to share, discuss, and disseminate information on emerging trends in Mechanical Engineering. Engineering education in India is witnessing a remarkable transition to a more focussed research-centric process leading to innovation and growth. Material science is a key area gaining tremendous research impetus. The complex manufacturing requirements of today necessitates smart functional materials whose properties could be controlled by the user. Research in composite materials is producing quality materials which are slowly replacing traditional homogenous materials. With increasing severity of modern day machines, tribological aspects of contact surfaces and lubrication efficiency is also generating continued research interest. Research in energy engineering is being continuously driven to bring forth clean sustainable energy. Nanotechnology as expected is finding its way into every field of mechanical engineering. Nanofluids with interesting rheological properties is also experiencing renewed interest. Complexity of manufacturing and costly resources has also led to research interest being generated in production and quality control engineering.
eTIME 2017 will bring to the table latest developments in the above-mentioned research areas. It is an opportunity for researchers in this region and elsewhere to meet, discuss and look at possibilities of forming research groups on specific topics leading to more synergised work. The conference will be held on August 4th & 5th, 2017 in the college premises.
A pre-conference workshop will be organized on the first day followed by the formal inauguration. The workshop is intended to provide the participating delegates an opportunity to listen to and interact with eminent subject experts from reputed institutes and industry. Four sessions will be conducted in relevant areas of interest.
SJEC is a premier educational Institution affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, Karnataka State and is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Established in 2002, the Institution offers top notch education in Engineering, Business Administration and Computer Applications at UG, PG, and Research levels. It has well qualified staff, state-of- the-art laboratories, research centers and other facilities. At present, about 2500 students are pursuing their studies in various disciplines in this Institution. The college also provides a variety of co- curricular and extra-curricular activities which help students in their overall growth and personality development.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2002 with the vision of nurturing technically competent and socially responsible Engineering Professionals. Alma mater to more than 1000 Graduate Engineers over the past 14 glorious years; the Department has soared to newer heights with the efforts of the well qualified and dedicated faculty and state-of- the-art infrastructure. The Department offers Undergraduate (B.E.), Post Graduate (M.Sc. Engineering by Research), and Doctoral (Ph.D) programme; with an annual intake of 180 candidates for B.E. Mechanical Engineering programme. The Department believes in the overall growth of a student in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and encourages them to participate in various paper presentations, seminars, workshops, industrial visits and other technical activities and strives to prepare students for carriers across a broad range of industries. The faculty and research scholars in the Department are actively involved in research and have published their research in many national and international journals in fields of Composite Materials, Tribology, Fuel Cells, Spray Forming, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. All of the Department’s laboratories and workshops are accessible to students for conducting project work, curricular lab work and other mini projects. The Department proudly announces re-accreditation of its B.E. Mechanical Engineering programme by the NBA for the second time which is valid till June 2019.
