The Inauguration of the Electrical & Electronics Student Association (EELS) was held on 25th October 2017 at 2:45pm in the Spoorthi Conference hall. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC presided over the inaugural ceremony. Mr Preetham D’Souza, First Officer, Jet Airways graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Guests of honor were Mr Glenn Noronha, Energy Specialist, United States Green Building Council, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal and Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal, SJEC. Dr. Sheryl Grace Colaco, Head of the Department, Ms Chaithra Shetty, Staff Coordinator and Mr Sharath Kumar Shetty, Student Coordinator, EELS were the other dignitaries present on the dais.
The program began with a prayer song by the E&E students lead by Mr Alex Mathew and group. Mr Tejas Acharya, final year student welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the Chief Guest and Guests of Honor to the gathering. The EELS association was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Mr Sourabh C Rai, final year student presented the report of EELS association activities held during the academic year 2016-17. Mr Sharath Kumar Shetty, Student Coordinator, EELS proposed the action plan for the academic year 2017-18. The meritorious students who secured highest marks in each subject during the last academic year were presented with a Certificate of Merit, as a gesture of appreciation, Mr Preetham D’Souza, Mr Glenn Noronha, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa and Dr Rio D’Souza honored the meritorious students.
Mr Preetham D’Souza in his address, inspired students to stay focused on academics and have a strong foundation in the subject fundamentals, which will be the key-step for their success. He stressed on the importance of honesty, hard work and the need to impart happiness to others. Mr Glenn Noronha shared his experience as a student and as a professional working in various places in India and abroad. He motivated students to stay focused on their goals. He advised the students to interact with their classmates in order to improve their communication skills, team spirit and peer learning, leading to the overall personality development of the student during college days. He added that students should be aware of recent advances in technology, take up internships in industry, attend training programs and develop projects.
Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, SJEC, motivated the students to take up new challenges and succeed in the same. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC, in his presidential address, emphasized the need to develop good knowledge of the subject and to be updated with current trends in Electrical Engineering.
The guests were felicitated with a memento presented by the Director, Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza and Principal, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis. The formal event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms Dhanya, a final year student. Ms Florence Marriolla Pinto, final year student was the master of ceremony for the event. The formal inaugural function was followed by a technical talk on 'Building Information Modelling(BIM)' by the Chief Guest.
