EEE : Workshop on Basics of Python Programming Language

A two-day workshop on ‘Basics of Python Programming Language’ was organized for the students of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 12th & 13th of January 2018. Mr Merryl D’Mello, Alumnus of the Batch of 2007 & Senior Consultant at Ardelis Tech was the resource person of the workshop.

Power System Simulation Laboratory belonging to the Department of E&E was the venue for the workshop. Four sessions were conducted per day, commencing at 9:30 AM & ending at 4:30 PM. On the first day of the workshop, session 1 consisted of ‘Installing Python Windows Editor’ and ‘Use of Python Resources’. Session 2 consisted of ‘General Python Programming Practices’ and training on ‘Printing & Display Commands in Python’. Session 3 had involved learning ‘Dictionaries, Strings and other Data Structures in Python’. Session 4 introduced ‘Decision Making Statements’ such as ‘while’ and if-else’.

On the second day, the first session focused on ‘For’ and ‘Nested-For’ statements. Sessions 2 and 3 enabled the participants to develop back-end programs required for a web application named ‘Income Expenses’. Session 4 focused on ‘Obtaining Online Data’ & the ‘Concept of Classes in Python’.

The participants and the staff coordinator appreciated the training sessions since it enabled them to attain fundamental skills on using Python language for developing web-based applications. At the end of the workshop Mr. Merryl D’Mello extended an offer of a free online internship program for a period of 15 days to the participants. 

Dr. Sheryl Colaco, Professor from the Department of E&E was the convener for the program and Mr Deepesh SK, Assistant Professor, from the Department of E&E was the coordinator for the program.
