Independence Day Celebrations – 2018

Aug 15, 2018

Rains gave way as SJEC welcomed India’s 72nd Independence Day with its traditional celebrations held in front of the administrative block. Leadership of the Institution, Deans, Heads of the Departments, Faculty, Staff, Security Team, and Students gathered in good numbers to celebrate the 72nd year of freedom from the clutches of colonial rule. India’s independence is a victory achieved with the blood and sacrifices of generations of our ancestors, our leaders, our stalwarts, who put country first above everything else! We bow our heads in remembrance and homage to those millions of freedom fighters for allowing us, the present generation, to live our lives in a free country! We owe them our freedom.

Dr Purushothama Chippar, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SJEC graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The celebrations commenced with a medley of patriotic songs that kindled the nationalistic spirits in all present. Dr Chippar unfurled the National Flag. The Security team led the gathering with the Salute to the National Flag and rendering of the National Anthem.

Dr Chippar in his address wished everyone a very happy Independence Day. He reflected on the diverse cultures, traditions, values, languages in our Country and the unity that prevails amidst all these differences. He asked the gathering to be proud of our countries achievements, its traditions and cultures. Dwelling on the problems prevailing in India, he requested all to face those challenges with courage and strength. Dr Chippar spoke of the need to be positive in life and asked everyone to spread positivity around them, leading to a positive institution, positive community, positive state and a positive country. He asked everyone to take a pledge to refrain from any form of corruption in our lives. On this day, he asked everybody to pray and be grateful to our Soldiers, who struggle with hostility in our borders for our peace and security. We remember with gratitude those brave hearts, who snatch sleep in trenches, and live in trying conditions.

The Director of the Institute, Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza felicitated the winners of the Independence Day competitions.

The celebrations concluded with wishes all around, sweets all around, and the pride of being an Indian all around!

We take a moment to pray for those fellow citizens affected by the torrential rains this season. We pray for their well being.

Jai Hind!!!
