I have always considered the teaching profession as highly selfless and noble. I was greatly inspired by my primary and high school teachers who have dedicated themselves to their teaching profession and betterment of students. My parents as well as all my elder sisters have been in this field of teaching from several decades. Therefore it is natural that I follow them. I have already about 17 years of teaching experience at various levels from Lecturer to Professor at St Joseph Engineering College Mangaluru. I have been fortunate to have taught variety of engineering subjects for UG and PG courses. Few of them to mention are Mechanics of Materials, Automation and Robotics, Mechatronics, CAD/CAM/CIM, Advanced Materials, Finite Element Method, Engineering Graphics etc. My teaching experience has spanned over two decades, and I feel confident that I can handle any course at teaching level. As an instructor, I have delivered the courses to the fullest satisfaction of myself and students. As a teaching assistant I have helped students to solve critical problems in the subject and graded their assignment and inteal examinations. On occasions, I have also conducted remedial classes for slow leaers in my subject. In addition, I have also helped students in their project work, inteships, seminars, writing research papers and preparing for the presentations. Outcome of my efforts in guiding the projects are seen in terms of technical papers presented in reputed inteational jouals. My classes are usually in the one-way presentation format. However, I always encourage the participation by asking the students to raise their doubts on the topic of study and relate the concept with its application. My effort has been to infuse my lecture with the application examples so that it becomes easy for the students to understand. One thing I have understood looking at the patte of students is that, a subject cannot be taught in a same manner to all students. It usually varies with the time, curricula, type of students and their expectations. With regard to use of different pedagogy in the classroom, I am always in favor of using a method that promotes true and healthy leaing for the students. I have also used some of the mode methods of teaching and leaing which helped me to disseminate the relevant information to the students. I look forward to teaching a variety of subjects in future, encouraging the greater students’ participation adopting mode teaching leaing practices.
