Jagruti: Session on Mental Health

 

Good mental health is fundamental to quality of life and physical health. It contributes to the ability to find satisfying social roles in life and allows people to form positive relationships with others. Mental health issues affect not only the young person, but also their family, careers, friends and the wider community. To enlighten on this, Jagruti Committee, SJEC and Lions & Leo Club, Kadri Hills, Mangaluru jointly organized a useful session for the female students at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru on 29 th September, 2016 at 3:30 PM. Dr Sufala S Kotian, Professor Shree Devi College of Engineering, was invited to give awareness on mental health.

The Speaker gave information on how a person’s mental health is influenced by his/her family, college, society & friends.  Dr Sufala also illustrated some of the real incidents she had come across in her students regarding to their mental health. She also insisted on keeping good mental health balance every day. She said that genetics could also be a factor in the development of a mental condition. Therefore it is important to consider mental health seriously and to seek help if one is at risk.

The session concluded at 4:50 PM. Around, 75 girls participated in the programme.

Dr Sufala S Kotian was felicitated with a college memento as a token of appreciation.
