Interactive Session on Counselling for Faculty: Department Of Business Administration

An Interactive Session on Counselling with Rev. Fr Alphonsus Cardoza, Campus Counsellor - SJEC, was organized by the Department of Business Administration for its for faculty members on 28th October 2014 in the Dean’s Office, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Rev. Fr Cardoza highlighted the importance of counseling in general and in academics in particular, especially by the faculty. He stated that MBA students take up the program with a lot of aspirations and it is the responsibility of faculty to guide and counsel the students in order to help them fulfill their aspirations

Counseling should lead to better education. It deals with making the individual aware, alert, attentive and active (4 A’s). Knowing oneself is of paramount importance and it is the counselor’s duty to help individuals get to know themselves. Moreover, knowledge should be imparted according to individual needs. Counseling also calls for empathetic understanding of the other person and teachers as mentors should go beyond learning.

Rev. Fr Cardoza also answered queries by the faculty. He stated that the golden role for life is “Do good, avoid evil”. The session was concluded with a note of thanks by the Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean MBA.

 

COUNSELLING: II YEAR MBA: DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Rev. Fr Alphonsus Cardoza, Campus Counselor, took up a session on The Significance of Counseling for II year MBA students (2013 - 2015), on 30 October 2014, in the Department of Business Administration, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Fr Cardoza highlighted the importance of counseling and stated that counseling in education is a process which functions for the purpose of bringing about change in behavior of learners in a desirable direction. These changes are reflected in the acquisition of new knowledge or modification of existing skills, and development of attitudes, feelings and values to enhance the healthy growth and development of the individual. He also stated that counseling helps individuals to make important choices and can prevent emotional health problems.

He highlighted the following few points-

  • Importance of sharing knowledge
  • Respecting others
  • Knowing ourselves
  • 4 A’s that contribute to a person’s success (being attentive, active, aware, able)
  • 5 major dimensions of personality
  • Importance of desire in achieving success.
