SJEC AICTE IDEA LAB in association with Department of Mechanical Engineering &
Industry Innovation Group organized a three days’ Smart Industrial Automation & PLC
Programming’ from September 12 to 14, 2024 for the diploma students of Mechanical
Engineering, Karnataka Polytechnic, Mangaluru at SJEC campus. A total of 28 students registered
for the workshop and actively participated during the 3 days’ schedule.
The workshop began with a formal inauguration at 9:30 AM in the FESTO Centre for
Industrial Automation Lab. Dr. Shreeranga Bhat, HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering
welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of Automation. Mr. Joel D’Mello, the
Co-Convener, detailed the workshop schedule and then delivered the vote of thanks.
The sessions were led by Dr. Swaraj D Lewis, Mr. Joel D’mello, Mr. Prashanth Kumar, Dr.
Ravikantha Prabhu, Mr. Prathviraj H, Dr. Binu K J and Dr. Rolvin D’Silva while Mr. Immanuel,
the Tech Guru, demonstrated features of the workstation and guided participants through hands-on
activities.
The workshop focused on the latest advancements in Smart Industrial Automation and PLC
programming. This 3-day workshop provided participants with a deep understanding of industrial
automation, covering both theoretical and practical aspects. The sessions on Hydraulic systems,
Pneumatic systems, Electro-Pneumatics, and PLC programming were comprehensive, with hands-
on experiences enabling students to apply learned concepts in real-world scenarios. The workshop
aimed to equip participants with the foundational and technical skills required for careers in
automation and PLC programming.
Dr. Rolvin D’Silva praised the participants for their enthusiasm, and Students thanked the
organizers for their support. Participants provided feedback, and Mr. Joel D’Mello thanked
everyone involved in making the workshop a success.
