St Joseph Engineering College is a Religious Minority Institution and admissions are governed as per religious minority institution status, as stated/declared by Government of Karnataka.
Selection is based on the merit of the candidate in the qualifying examination and Entrance test marks. Selection and admission will be provisional and is subject to the norms prescribed by A.I.C.T.E, V.T.U. and Government of Karnataka.
The candidates who meet the qualification are required to appear for entrance test and interview to be conducted at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor Mangalore or any other place specified by the college, the exact date of which will be intimated.
The candidates shall bear all the expenses in connection with the selection interview.
40% of the seats are filled by the Government of Karnataka through Common Entrance Test (KCET).
30% of the seats are filled through entrance tests conducted by KRLMPCA.
30% of the seats are filled by Management.
All the Karnataka Christian Students who wish to take admission at St Joseph Engineering College are required to appear for this year’s KRLMPCA examination. Christian Students will be given preference while counselling, as it enjoys Christian Minority status in the state of Karnataka.
NRI students who wish to get admission through management quota are required to appear for either of the entrance exam CET/KRLMPCA as declared by the Government of Karnataka (DTE).
Please note that the admission is subject to the guidelines of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and the Government of Karnataka.
The candidate shall have passed the second year Pre University or XII standard or equivalent examinations held preceding the date of entrance test with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Bio-Technology, Computer Science, Biology, Electronics and shall have secured not less than Forty Five (45%) percent of the aggregate marks in optional subjects, with English as one of the languages, for admission to Engineering & Technology Courses.
Provided further that the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility shall be Forty percent (40%) of aggregate in optional subjects in case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes specified in the relevant Government order for the purpose of reservation in respect of Engineering and Technology Courses.
Note: The relaxation in academic eligibility is extended only to Karnataka candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes.
CET or KRLMPCA score is needed for seats coming under government or minority quota. A small number of seats are reserved under NRI quota.

Candidates who have passed a three year Diploma in Engineering with minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) in the final year are eligible for lateral entry. As part of their course, such candidates will have to study additional subjects as prescribed by the University.
