The eye and organ donation awareness programme was organized by Department of Chemistry in association with SJEC Foundation and Wellness & Fitness Group in collaboration with Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Jilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department & Primary Health Center, Kudupu for the staff and students of SJEC. The program was aimed to provide an awareness of eye and organ donation, to improve the quality of life and save lives of recipients with serious medical conditions or organ failure.

Dr Chirag Primary health Centre, Primary Health Center, Kudupu, and Dr Sudarshan, District Blindness Control Head were the resource persons. They were florally welcomed by Dr K Jyothi, Professor & Head, Chemistry and Dr Gururaj S., Assistant professor, MCA. The welcoming address was done by Ms Prathima S-Asst Prof-Chemistry.
The resource persons spoke about the importance of donation of eyes. They mentioned that each person who donates eyes can provide the gift of sight to two blind people. They provided detailed explanation of transplantation of eyes which includes preservation of cornea of dead person. They revealed that the cornea is composed of multi layers and through surgery these layers of the cornea can be transplanted for a specific indication. That means the unhealthy layer is replaced with the healthy one leading to normal vision. The speakers also explained the process to register for eye donation using Jeevana Sarthakathe website.
