III Semester Orientation Programme

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, organized a five-day orientation programme for the III semester students from 15th to 19th September 2025. The aim of the programme was to welcome students to the new phase of their engineering journey, familiarize them with departmental activities, and equip them with academic, technical, and professional insights.

Objectives

·         To introduce students to the faculty members, department facilities, and resources.

·         To provide insights into the EELS Association, student clubs, and peer mentoring system.

·         To enhance awareness on career pathways, including placements, higher studies, and entrepreneurship.

·         To orient students toward technical learning, innovation, and professional ethics.

Summary of Sessions

Day 1 – 15/09/2025

·         The orientation began with an icebreaker session – “EEE Bingo” led by the orientation team and student volunteers.

·         Following the introductory games, Dr. Sanath Saralaya gave an overview of the department and its facilities.

·         Later, Mr. Deepesh and Mr. Joysun, along with volunteers, introduced the EELS Association and various student clubs.

·         The afternoon session, conducted by Mr. Sathyendra Bhat, focused on career pathways, including placement, higher studies, and entrepreneurship.

Day 2 – 16/09/2025

·         The day began with peer mentoring sessions by student teams, followed by a technical talk by alumni Ms. Preetha Aroza and Mr. Jaison Dias (Batch of 2018).

·         Ms. Divya K Pai conducted a session on online learning platforms and mindfulness for engineers.

·         Mr. Franco Menezes delivered a session on curriculum overview and tips to excel, followed by a live demonstration of final year student projects.

·         The day concluded with a Treasure Hunt activity organized by the student volunteers.

Day 3 – 17/09/2025

·         The third day included hands-on and practical sessions.

·         Mr. Franco Menezes introduced Multisim and virtual circuit lab simulations.

·         A session on Quality Assurance, IPR, and Patent Awareness was also held.

·         Post-lunch, Ms. Chaithra Shetty conducted a class on Understanding Electrical Circuits: Analysis and Problem Solving, followed by a Fun Quiz: EEE Tech Challenge.

Day 4 – 18/09/2025

·         The fourth day focused on strengthening theoretical foundations.

·         Mr. Deepesh Kanchan guided students on preparing for competitive examinations.

·         Dr. Ajithanjaya Kumar introduced semiconductors and their applications.

·         Later sessions by Dr. Subramanya and Ms. Himani covered Basic Electrical Engineering and Electrical Machines.

·         In the afternoon, Mr. Sathisha K presented a session titled “From Plan to Practice: Domestic Wiring and Electrical Estimation.”

Day 5 – 19/09/2025

·         The final day featured a blend of conceptual and lab-oriented learning.

·         Ms. Divya K Pai explained Electric Power Generation Systems and Technologies, followed by Ms. Bharathi Rao on Microcontrollers: Theory and Applications.

·         Dr. Sanath Saralaya and Ms. Chaithra Shetty jointly conducted a lab session on analog devices and circuits.

·         The programme concluded with a session on Digital Electronics for Engineers by Mr. Joysun D’Souza.

Outcomes

·         Students gained a comprehensive understanding of the department’s academic and extracurricular structure.

·         Alumni interaction provided motivation and clarity regarding career goals.

·         Hands-on sessions promoted practical learning and problem-solving abilities.

·         Activities like the quiz and treasure hunt fostered teamwork and engagement.

Conclusion

The III Semester Orientation Programme successfully achieved its objectives by combining academic sessions, technical exposure, and interactive activities. The initiative helped students transition smoothly into core Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses while developing a sense of belonging to the department.
