MATLAB for PBL-Control Systems

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering conducted a hands-on workshop on MATLAB for PBL–Control Systems on 13th August 2025. The session was facilitated by Mr. Riyaz Rahiman, Senior Application Engineer, CoreEL Technologies, Bangalore.

The primary objective of the workshop was to help students understand the fundamentals of DC motor modelling and control for Project-Based Learning (PBL).

  • In the morning session, Mr. Rahiman introduced the basics of Simulink and Simscape, and demonstrated their application in DC motor modelling. He also presented a comparison between Simulink and Simscape approaches.
  • In the afternoon session, he focused on Arduino interfacing with DC motors, covering speed control using SPWM (Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation).

The workshop was highly interactive and practical in nature, enabling students to gain hands-on exposure to modern simulation and control tools.  A total of 58 students actively participated in the session. Dr Sheryl Grace Colaco &Mr Franco Menezes -– Dept of EEE coordinated the sessions.
