The Boot Camp for the preparation and review of the new first-year syllabus was organized from 28th to 30th July 2025 at the TLC Center, Academic Block 1. The program aimed to ensure that all first-year courses for the upcoming semester were well-structured, outcome-oriented, and aligned with institutional and accreditation requirements. The event brought together faculty members to collaboratively finalize syllabi, prepare course documentation, and review lab manuals. The sessions were inaugurated each day at 9:30 AM, beginning with a welcome address by Dr. Ravikantha Prabhu, Head of the Department – Mechanical Engineering. The Boot Camp was convened by Dr. Rolvin Sunil D’Silva and Dr. Binu K. G., with active coordination support from Ms. Ramya M and Mr. Swaraj D. Lewis.
Day 1 – 28th July 2025
The first day began with an overview of the new first-year syllabus to familiarize faculty members with recent curriculum revisions. This was followed by an intensive syllabus preparation session for various first-year subjects, ensuring completeness and clarity in course content. The afternoon session focused on Course Outcomes (COs) and CO–PO mapping – Part 1, where faculty collaborated to align learning outcomes with program objectives. The day concluded with an overview of assessment tools, covering both formative and summative evaluation methods.
Day 2 – 29th July 2025
Day two commenced with CO–PO Mapping – Part 2, finalizing the alignment matrix to ensure measurable and attainable learning outcomes. This was followed by Course Plan Preparation – Part 1 and Part 2, where faculty structured weekly lesson plans, integrating lecture schedules, learning activities, and assessment strategies. The latter part of the day was dedicated to Lab Manual Review – Session 1, focusing on experimental objectives, procedural clarity, and safety considerations.
Day 3 – 30th July 2025
The final day began with the finalization of syllabus and course plans, consolidating all subject-level
documentation. Lab Manual Review – Session 2 was then conducted, incorporating final corrections and aligning experiments with theoretical learning objectives. The afternoon session involved the compilation and submission of outputs, including syllabi, course plans, CO–PO matrices, and lab manuals. The Boot Camp concluded with a feedback session, where participants shared insights and suggestions for future improvements, followed by certificate distribution and closing remarks.
Outcomes of the Boot Camp
By the conclusion of the three-day Boot Camp, the following outcomes were achieved:
• Finalized Syllabus for all first-year subjects, updated and aligned with the latest academic requirements.
• Course Outcomes (COs) clearly defined for each subject, ensuring measurable learning targets.
• CO–PO Mapping completed to meet accreditation standards.
• Comprehensive Course Plans prepared, including teaching schedules, activities, and assessment methods.
• Lab Manuals Reviewed and Updated, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with learning
objectives.
• Assessment Tools Framework established to maintain academic quality and transparency.
Conclusion
The Boot Camp successfully met its objectives of preparing the academic framework for the upcoming semester. The collaborative efforts of the faculty ensured that the curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment mechanisms were aligned with both institutional goals and external accreditation requirements. The focused discussions and structured review sessions not only strengthened academic preparedness but also fostered teamwork and shared responsibility among faculty members. The commitment shown by all participants in completing the syllabus, course plans, and lab manuals within the stipulated time reflects the department’s dedication to delivering quality education from the very start of the academic year.
