The one-day Hands-on Workshop on Prototype Fabrication & Testing (PFT), organized by the SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was successfully conducted on September 13, 2025, for 10 teaching faculty members. The workshop was structured into two intensive sessions. The Morning Session focused heavily on software training, covering essential tools such as TinkerCAD and Slicing software for 3D printing, KiCAD for PCB design, and LaserCAD for the CNC wood router. This foundational training ensured all participants had the necessary theoretical and software knowledge to execute their own designs.

The Afternoon Session transitioned seamlessly into practical, hands-on application, allowing faculty to practice directly on the IDEA Lab equipment. Participants gained direct experience with 3D printing, operating the CNC laser cutting machine, performing PCB making, and using the Woodrouter machine. Furthermore, the session included an introduction to traditional workshop skills like carpentry and sheet metal making, offering a holistic view of both advanced and foundational fabrication processes. The resource persons—Dr. Vijay V S, Dr. Ravikantha Prabhu (HOD and Associate Professor, Dept. of ME), and Mr. Joyson D'Souza—delivered a comprehensive and multidisciplinary learning experience, which was highly appreciated by the participants who can now better integrate these prototyping skills into their curricula and student mentorship.
