The Department of Business Administration, in association with the Department of Computer Applications of St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, organised a one-day colloquium titled From Vision to Venture on 2nd July 2025. The event, held at the Kalam Auditorium from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, was designed to inspire and empower MBA and MCA students to translate their entrepreneurial aspirations into reality.
The programme commenced with an inaugural ceremony and keynote address delivered by Mr. Ronald Silvan D’Souza, Founder and Executive Director of Leksa Lighting Technologies Pvt Ltd. The inauguration was presided over by Dr. Prakash Pinto, Dean of the MBA Department. In his keynote, Mr. D’Souza stressed the critical role of preparation and a clear vision in becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Following the inaugural session, Mr. Ronald Silvan D’Souza conducted the first technical session, during which he shared his personal journey as an entrepreneur. He spoke candidly about the challenges he faced while establishing his venture and emphasised the importance of resilience, meticulous planning, and continuous learning in overcoming obstacles along the entrepreneurial path.
The second session was led by Mr. Mangalnath M K, an ecopreneur and former sales and marketing professional in the consumer durables and telecom sectors. He narrated his inspiring transition from corporate life to adopting organic farming practices. Mr. Mangalnath highlighted the ups and downs inherent in agriculture and discussed how he navigated uncertainties with determination and adaptability. His session encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship not just as a commercial pursuit but as a means of contributing meaningfully to society and the environment.
In the afternoon, the colloquium featured an engaging panel discussion that brought together distinguished professionals from diverse industries. The panellists included Mr. Adeeth Kalbavi, Managing Director of Kalbavi Consumer Foods Pvt Ltd; Ms. Sowmya Karkera, Director and Managing Partner of Namma Kudla TV Channel; and Mr. Ashray Bhandary, Managing Director – Sales of Bhandary School Book Pvt Ltd. The panellists shared practical insights on building and sustaining businesses in competitive markets, the role of innovation in driving growth, and strategies for navigating the dynamic landscape of modern entrepreneurship. The interactive nature of the session allowed students to seek clarifications and gain perspectives on real-world challenges and opportunities.
The panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Sherin Rosario and Mr. Johan, students of the first-year MBA programme, who facilitated engaging conversations and audience questions. The Master of Ceremonies for the entire day was Ms. Lerina, also a first-year MBA student, who ensured the smooth conduct of the event.
Throughout the colloquium, the sessions were marked by interactive dialogues, real-life case studies, and thought-provoking reflections, offering students a comprehensive understanding of entrepreneurship. Participants expressed keen appreciation for the opportunity to learn directly from industry experts and gain insights that will guide them in their future careers.
The event was coordinated by Ms. Prajwala P Rodrigues, Faculty Convenor, with the support and guidance of Dr. Prakash Pinto, Dean of the MBA Department & Dr. Hareesh B, Head of the Department of Computer Applications. The college remains committed to fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among its students by organising such enriching programmes that inspire them to transform their visions into ventures.
