A Five-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “NABL Accreditation: ISO/IEC 17025 Requirements, Documentation and Internal Audits” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, from 27 January 2026 to 31 January 2026, between 9.30 am and 5.00 pm.

The FDP was conducted for faculty members, laboratory professionals, QA/QC heads, industry executives, and other stakeholders to enhance awareness and competency in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements, laboratory documentation, and internal auditing procedures essential for achieving and sustaining NABL accreditation.

The programme commenced on 27 January 2026 with sessions by Mr. M. G. Sathyendra, NABL Assessor and laboratory quality expert, who served as the resource person for the first four days. The sessions covered laboratory accreditation concepts, structure of ISO/IEC 17025, definitions, and management requirements, along with an opening quiz and interactive discussions.

On 28 and 29 January 2026, detailed clause-wise sessions were conducted on technical and management requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, including risk-based thinking, method validation, measurement uncertainty, control of records, and internal auditing principles as per ISO 19011. The sessions included hands-on exercises, audit planning, and checklist preparation.

The morning session on 30 January 2026 was conducted under the NABL Awareness Programme “Gunvatta Yathra”.
Mr. Abhishek Smaran, Analyst, NBQP–QCI, delivered a session on NABL awareness, accreditation in quality assurance, and competence in testing and calibration laboratories.
Mr. Venugopal, Adviser, NBQP–QCI, conducted a session on the NABL accreditation process, documentation requirements, and online application procedures, including guidance on workflows and digital submission through the NABL portal.
A pledge on NABL awareness was administered as part of the programme.

The afternoon session on 30 January 2026 was conducted by Mr. M. G. Sathyendra and focused on internal auditing practices, including audit execution, identification of non-conformities, corrective actions, and audit reporting. A qualification examination was conducted to assess participants’ understanding.

On 31 January 2026, participants visited Mangalore Biotech Laboratory, a NABL-accredited facility, as part of an industrial exposure programme. The visit provided insights into implementation of ISO/IEC 17025, documentation systems, laboratory management practices, and compliance mechanisms.

The FDP concluded with participant feedback. The programme addressed both standard requirements and practical implementation, contributing to capacity building and quality practices among participants.
