  • One-day Hands-on Workshop on "Transforming Field Engineering Problems to Publications Using AI Tools" for Faculties and Research Scholars as Part of Workshop Series on AI Tools

Date: 3rd January 2025
Venue: IoT Lab, Academic Block II
Faculty Coordinators: Dr. Yajneshwaran B and Dr. ESTR Chandra Sekhar B

Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications are increasingly being integrated into various fields, including Civil Engineering, to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making processes. Some Civil Engineering applications include predictive maintenance, structural health monitoring, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). AI algorithms can optimize construction schedules, resource allocation, and project planning by analyzing historical data, project specifications, and external factors such as weather conditions.

The workshop aimed to equip faculty with the knowledge and skills to apply AI tools effectively in research and to enhance publication outcomes.

The workshop began with a welcome speech by Dr. ESTR Chandra Sekhar, who addressed both the resource persons and participants. The first session, led by Dr. Ramanda H.S., Professor and Dean (SW) at SJEC, Mangalore, introduced the fundamentals of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and explored their application in solving various problems.

In the second session, Dr. Kavy B.R., Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at AIT Chikmagalur, discussed the basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential applications in civil engineering. The third session, conducted by Dr. Shrikanth A.S., Professor and Head of Mathematics at AIT Chikmagalur, focused on transforming field problems into research publications, providing practical examples with an emphasis on deep learning.

Participants gained valuable insights into the practical applications of AI tools in civil engineering. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the workshop's effectiveness in enhancing understanding of AI-driven solutions for engineering problems and research publication strategies.

The workshop concluded with Dr. ESTR Chandra Sekhar delivering the vote of thanks and summarizing key workshop content. Dr. Yajneshwaran B presented mementos to the resource persons. The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Yajneshwaran B and Dr. ESTR Chandra Sekhar.
