A group of students, accompanied by Dr. Nishitha D’Souza, Dr. Aswathy, Mr. Ajeeth B, and Ms. Sinchana, participated in the MIR Net Zero Summit held on 20 February 2026 at TMA Pai Hall, Mangaluru, on the theme “Vision 2047; Building India’s Carbon Neutral Future Cities.”
The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and sustainability experts to address India’s transition towards net zero emissions. The inaugural session featured key representatives from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of Karnataka, and international delegates including the Consulate General of Italy, emphasizing global partnerships, policy alignment, and green investment as critical enablers.
The sessions moved beyond theoretical discussions and focused on actionable strategies for decarbonizing the built environment. Key areas included ESG-driven infrastructure development, financing mechanisms for green projects, and scalable approaches to sustainable urban planning.
Technical deliberations highlighted practical solutions such as carbon-neutral building design, adoption of low-carbon and recycled construction materials, integration of solar photovoltaic systems within building envelopes, use of smart glass for energy optimization, and application of mass timber in structural systems. Emphasis was also placed on digital transformation through Building Information Modelling (BIM), lifecycle assessment, and data-driven decision-making in infrastructure projects.
Discussions on resilience and future-ready cities addressed climate-adaptive infrastructure, predictive maintenance, and sustainable urban regeneration strategies.
The participation provided direct exposure to industry practices, emerging technologies, and policy directions shaping the net zero transition. It strengthened the students’ understanding of real-world implementation challenges and reinforced the role of engineers in driving sustainable, low-carbon development.
