Dr Rio D'Souza earned his Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1986 from Karnatak University, Dharwad. He earned his MTech in Computer Engineering in 2000 from Visveswaraya Technological University, Belgaum. He also holds an Advanced Diploma in Applied Bioinformatics from Bioinformatics Institute of India at Noida. In 2011, he completed his PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NITK Surathkal, under the supervision of Dr K Chandra Sekaran and Dr A Kandasamy. In this connection he has worked in the field of Evolutionary Computing and Bioinformatics
Most of his work experience is in academics, except for about 7 years of industrial experience, out of which for 5 years he served as Project Manager for Jal International Corporation which is a large company engaged in Electrical and Instrumentation Contracting works in Saudi Arabia.
He has served as Lecturer for 5 years in the Electrical Engineering Department of Kalpataru Institute of Technology, Tiptur. He has also served as Assistant Professor in the MCA Department of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, for 4 years and as a Teaching Fellow at NITK for a year and half. Since June 2006, he is with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SJEC, which he was heading till July 2009. Since July 2010, he has headed the Department of Computer Applications at SJEC and from February 2011, he has taken over as Dean-Academics of SJEC.
His research interests include Soft-Computing Technologies and Bioinformatics. He has been a resource person at several seminars and conferences. As of February 2011, he has 15 international journal and conference papers to his credit. He is also a keen enthusiast in E-learning and the application of Information Technology to Engineering Education.
