Dear Student,

First of all, we would like to thank you, for becoming a member of SJEC family and thereby involving yourself in strengthening the Educational, Social Responsibilities (ESR) of this institution and helping us to attain our goal.

You should remain ever grateful to your parents/guardians, who take care of your needs by providing food, clothing and shelter predominantly and lend financial support too for your education. To lessen their financial burden, there are a good number of Government Departments and other private agencies too, providing financial aid. Only thing to be done from your side is, you should be eligible as per the criteria prescribed, furnish required documents, and apply within the stipulated period. Now we would like to draw your kind attention on some of the main scholarships and financial aid:-

1. NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PORTAL ( www.scholarships.gov.in)

Under this portal, there are Central Scholarship and AICTE scholarship schemes as follows:

Central Scholarship Schemes

  • Central Sector Scheme of scholarships (MHRD):
    Class XII pass out students of the current Academic Year, who are above 80% in 12th std, can apply before the cut-off date. The parental/family income ceiling is Rs. 4.5 lakh per annum for all categories under this scheme.
  • The students with disabilities SC/ST/BCM/Brahmin/General, Annual Income- Rs. 8 lakhs per annum
  • Financial Assistance for Education of the Wards of Beedi, Iron Ore Manganese & Chrome Ore Mines, Limestone & Dolomite Mines, Cine worker Scholarship :
    Either of the parents of the students should be Beedi workers, Iron Ore Manganese & Chrome Ore Mines, Limestone & Dolomite Mines, Cine worker with at least six months service. This also includes Contract/Gharkhata workers also. Total monthly Income of the Worker’s family from all sources should not exceed Rs.10,000/- per month and for Cine Worker Rs. 8000 per month or an amount not exceeding Rs. 100,000/- per annum.
  • UGC: National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies: Annual family income should be less than ₹2,50,000 from all source. A 'single girl child' is defined as the only girl child in the family without any brothers or sisters. If a family has one or more sons and one daughter, the daughter is not considered a single girl child. However, a girl scholar who is one of the twin daughters or fraternal daughters is eligible to apply for the scholarship.

AICTE Scholarship Schemes

  • Scholarship for girl child under PRAGATI Scheme for “ Empowering Women Through Technical Education”
  • Scholarship for Differently Abled Students under SAKSHAM Scheme to support specially abled children to pursue Technical Education
  • Swanath – to the students of Orphan, Either or both parents died due to Covid-19, Wards of Armed Forces and Central Paramilitary Forces martyred in action (Shaheed) Family income from all sources should not be more than Rs. 8 Lakh per annum during the financial year of the application. A valid income certificate issued by State/UT Government is to be enclosed. The candidate should be currently studying in the AICTE Approved institutions and courses at Degree/ Diploma level in regular mode.
2. STATE SCHOLARSHIP PORTAL(STATE SCHOLARSHIP PORTAL)

The eligible students of SC, ST, Minority, Brahmin (EWS), Backward classes, Relatives of Disabled and Disabled students can apply under this portal.(applicable to CET students only)

  • Department of Social Welfare – income limit below 2.5 lakhs
  • Scheduled Tribes welfare department – income limit below 2.5 lakhs
  • Department of Backward Classes Welfare – vidyasiri and fee reimbursement – income below 2.5lakh for cat-1 and 2A, 3A, 3B – Income below 1 lakh
  • Department of minority – Merit cum means scholarship – income below 2.5 lakhs
  • Department of Technical Education – income limit more than 2.5 to less than 10 lakhs
  • Karnataka State Brahmin Development Board – income limit less than 4.5 lakhs
  • Defence scholarship: Parents working in Indian Defence Wing (Army, Air force, Navy) Student’s parent should be a serving officer/staff as Non- Commissioned Officer/ Junior Commission Officer and other below ranks - Service Certificate issued by the Defense Authority (working unit)

Prathibha Puraskar / Kittur Rani Chennamma Puraskar to BPL Card holders PUC marks should be above 80%. This is applicable to the girl student of SC/ST & OBC category.

Please Note

  1. A student shall be eligible for only one scholarship out of all the available Scholarships of Central Government meant for SC/ST/OBC/minority.
  2. Bank Account must be operational/active till the scholarship is disbursed. Ministry of Minority Affairs will not be responsible in case of transaction failure in the account given by applicant.
  3. Bank Account must be in the name of the student seeded with Aadhar card and NPCI.
3. MANGALORE CITY CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIP
  • Special benefit to the merit students under 7.25% fund scheme all the category students
  • Desktop / laptop facility to the SC/ST students income limit below 5 lakh
  • Special benefit to the students who have excelled in co-curricular activities under 7.25% fund scheme.
  • Special benefit to the students with disabilities under 3% fund scheme.
  • Special benefit to the students with disabilities who have excelled in co-curricular activities.
  • Special benefit to the SC/ST students under 24.10% fund scheme

Criteria:Parent annual family income should be below Rs. 2,50,000/- Should be the resident of Mangalore City Corporation.

4. KARNATAKA LABOUR WELFARE BOARD (www.klwbapps.karnataka.gov.in)

KLWB, Bangalore invites online educational assistance from the eligible children of organized sector workers who are working in firms / factories. The students who have passed in the previous examination with 50% for general category and 45% for SC/ST category students are eligible. Parents monthly income should not exceed Rs. 35000/- per month.

5. LOAN SCHEMES
  • Educational Loan Facility up to Rs. 5 Lakhs at just 6% interest rate by applying through Nationalized Banks in the state. Any student who gets admission to a course in Engineering through CET conducted by KEA can avail this loan. This facility is available only for the meritorious and economically backward students

  • ARIVU (Education Loan) Scheme by KMDCL:
    Eligible students of Engineering who have already availed Loans in previous years & secured 65% marks in previous exam/semester can only apply for RENEWAL.

  • Arivu’ Study Loan Scheme By D.Devaraja Urs Backward Classes’ Development Corporation :
    Students belonging to Backward Classes as category-1, 2A, 3A and 3B (except religious minorities and Viswakarma caste ) who get admission to engineering through CET will get loan to a maximum limit of Rs.1.00 lakh per year or actual expense limits covering admission fee, tuition fee, laboratory fee, examination fee and any other fees fixed by Government, books, stationery and equipments at a nominal 2% interest rate. Loan recovery will be for 3 years and start 4 months after completion of the course with Income limit less than Rs.3.50 lakhs

  • The CODP provides secured loan to limited extent for the Christian minority community students for education purpose with 0% interest for CET/KRLMPCA students only – offline applications to be submitted.
  • Scholarship for the minority girl students only, to be applied online through the Maulana Azad Education Foundation official website.
  • Scholarship for Jammu and Kashmir students to be applied online through the www.aicte-india.org.

Similarly, there are few other scholarships provided by some of the private trusts and bodies mainly:-

  • Gowda Saraswath Brahmin Seva Trust Mumbai provides scholarship for students belonging to GSB Community.
  • Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy provides scholarship for students whose mother tongue is Konkani.
  • Sri. Kshethra Dharmasthala Grameena Abhivraddhi Yojana scholarship for all.
  • Malpe Madhwaraj Memorial Trust Schoplarship for Other Backward Class students.
  • Sitaram Jindal Foundation Scholarship for all.
  • Lingayath trust provides educational loan for Lingayath community students at a reasonable rate of interest and also for the higher studies abroad.
  • Amazon India is offering Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) scholarship for the under-privileged girl students of Computer Science Engineering and allied branches.
    Eligibility - annual family income less than INR 3 LAKHS. Admission taken through state or national level entrance tests. Currently studying in the first year of undergraduation.
    Diploma students admitted to BE courses as lateral entries are not eligible.
  • Reliance foundation undergraduate scholarship - to qualify for this scholarship aptitude test will be conducted.
    eligibility - Indian students currently studying in the first year of under graduation in any stream. students who have passed 12th std with a minimum of 60% marks and enrolled in 1st year full time UG Degree. annual family income less than 15 lakhs. Preference will be given to those having less than 2.5 lakhs.
  • Shri S Nijalingappa Nidhi Fund for the students whose parents are primary teachers from Karnataka who are currently working in the districts of Dharwad, Haveri, Gadaga, Karwar, Belagavi, Bagalkot, and Bijapur.

Thus, these are some of the main scholarships awarded by the various private bodies, but here also there are some eligibility criteria prescribed and ceiling for the income too.
