The Student Association of Mechanical Engineering Department, TORQUE, along with ISTE Student’s Chapter, celebrated Teachers Day on 5 September 2014, at 2:30 pm, in the Seminar Hall, Civil Engineering Block. A video on the life of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was presented.

It was also an occasion to felicitate senior faculty member from the Mechanical Engineering Department, Professor Ganapathi Bhat, who retired in June 2014.

Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, presided over the function and Rev Fr Ajith Menezes, Director in-charge, was the Guest of Honour. Dr Raju K, HOD, Mechanical Engineering, and Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Dean Quality Assurance, were also present on the dais.

The program began with a prayer led by Mr Denzil Tom and students from VII Sem.

Dr Raju K, welcomed the gathering after which, Dr Thirumaleshwar Bhat, introduced the Chief Guest, Professor Ganapathi Bhat, to the gathering and shared his experience of working with him as a colleague. Mr Joel Concesso addressed the gathering on behalf of the Alumni and Mr Shishir Aithal spoke on behalf of the students, about their experience with Professor Ganapathi Bhat.

In his speech, the Chief Guest urged the teachers to be committed and dedicated toward their duty of imparting knowledge to the students. He called upon students to take Dr S Radhakrishnan as their role model and urged them to use mode technology to enhance their leaing and experience of engineering. He also remembered Fr Valerian D’Souza, former Director, and Dr R K Yaji, former Principal, on this occasion.

Mr Shreeranga Bhat, Coordinator TORQUE, proposed the Vote of Thanks. Ms Ramya, Assistant Professor, was the emcee. The function was followed by games and other activities that were conducted by the students for teaching and non-teaching staff.
