BOOK DONATION DRIVE FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN’S HOME

The Central Library, Library & Learning Group and the Department of Business Administration in collaboration with the SJEC Alumni Association, organized a “BOOK DONATION DRIVE” from 21st April to 15th May, 2026 at SJEC. The event was open to all students, faculty members and staff of the college.

The book donation drive was an initiative to bridge the gap in access to educational resources for underprivileged children. The book donation drive primarily focused on collecting short stories, life skills, health & hygiene, adventure, biographies of national leaders, fiction/non-fiction and classics books for children aged 7-18 years in the underprivileged children’s home. The students, faculty members and other staff of SJEC were informed about the event in advance via poster, flyer and messages. The collection boxes were placed at the respective Department Office and in the Central Library, where all the donors could donate the books.

Through this initiative, we were only able to collect a few books, which were not highly recommended for donation to the proposed organization. Therefore, it is decided to purchase a few story books and donate them. Hence on approval, a total of 38 children story books in English and Kannada and the required number of notebooks, copy writing books and drawing books were purchased for donation.

The story books and writing materials are donated to “DE MERCEDE Children’s Orphanage, Paneer, Derlakatte Mangalore” on 23.05.2026 by the conveners of the event.
