Library: ACADEMIC INTEGRITY, PLAGIARISM AND BEST PRACTICES

 

A user awareness program on Academic Integrity, Plagiarism and Best Practices was conducted by Library and Leaing group and Research and Facilities group in association with Tuitin through VTU Consortium on 2 nd Feb, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 4:30pm at SJEC, Mangaluru. The program was open for all the faculty members and research scholars of SJEC. Around 26 faculty members participated in the program. Dr Felcy D'Souza welcomed the gathering and the resource persons for the program Mr Akshay Prasanna, Senior Consultant, PES-South Asia, Tuitin, Bengaluru and Mr Avinash from Tuitin, Bengaluru.

Mr Akshay Prasanna explained about what is Academic Integrity and plagiarism and why it is important in the field of academic. He told that Academic integrity allows students and staff the freedom to build new ideas, knowledge and creative works while respecting and acknowledging the work of others. The University will respond to academic misconduct in a fair, consistent, transparent and timely manner. Academic integrity is the commitment to live by these values. Plagiarism is an aspect of academic integrity in that using another's ideas, words, theories, illustrations or graphics, opinions or facts without giving credit is dishonest. Academic integrity includes the values of trust, respect, faiess, and honesty in your work. Plagiarism means the inclusion of any idea or language from someone else without giving due credit by citing and referencing that source. He also gave a demo on how to use the Tuitin tool for creating a class of students for them to submit their assignment or project reports and also for checking the plagiarism, grammar, and spellings.
