From Idea to Impact – Business Modeling in Problem-Based Learning

The Department of Intelligent Computing and Business Systems (ICBS), in collaboration with the Industry and Innovation Group at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, organized a workshop titled “From Idea to Impact: Business Modeling in Problem-Based Learning.” The session was conducted on 14 March 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Webinar Hall, 4404, ICBS. The workshop was specifically designed for 6th-semester CSE(DS) students.

The workshop introduced students to the fundamentals of business modeling within a problem-based learning framework. Key topics included factors influencing product success, identification of target markets, competitive advantage, marketing strategies, and revenue generation methods. Participants gained insights into market trends, customer behavior, the distinction between business models and business plans, financial aspects such as budgeting and break-even analysis, and the importance of building brand value.

Feedback collected from participants reflected a highly positive reception. Most students strongly agreed that the workshop enhanced their understanding of product success factors, target market identification, competitive advantage, marketing strategies, and revenue options. The clarity and effectiveness of the resource person’s communication were universally praised. Participants found the session useful and relevant, appreciating the focus on practical applications and real-world business challenges. Suggestions for improvement included conducting more sessions of similar nature and incorporating practical case studies to further enrich learning.

The workshop effectively met its objectives by providing practical knowledge and skills in business modeling. The positive feedback underscores the session’s impact on students’ ability to connect ideas with business outcomes, supporting key program outcomes related to problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
