The Department of Civil Engineering, in association with the Nirman Civil Engineering Students Association, organized an site visit to the Thannirubhavi Bridge Site on 12 September 2026 for the seventh-semester Civil Engineering students. A total of 46 students participated in the visit.
The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the construction and structural components of prestressed concrete (PSC) systems and reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures. The visit served as an opportunity for students to observe how structural engineering concepts studied in the classroom are implemented in actual construction practices.
During the visit, students gained firsthand exposure to prestressed concrete beam components, RCC structural elements, construction practices, and structural detailing. The technical interactions at the site helped students understand the sequence of construction activities and the practical considerations involved in executing structural works.
The interaction with site and technical personnel provided valuable insights into construction processes, process planning, operational challenges, quality control, and maintenance practices. These discussions helped students understand the practical constraints encountered in structural construction and the importance of proper planning, supervision, and quality assurance.
The industrial visit significantly enhanced the students' understanding of PSC systems and RCC structural components and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world engineering practice. It also provided students with valuable exposure to the responsibilities and technical considerations involved in structural construction projects.
