The Department of Civil Engineering organized the inauguration of the student club, SHILPA and followed by the "Meet The Author" event in collaboration with the Library and Leaing group as a part of the Lecture Series on Civil Engineering 2023 on 15th June 2023 from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm in the Kalam Auditorium at SJEC, Vamanjoor. Professor S.S. Bhavikatti, an outstanding author and former HOD of NITK inaugurated SHILPA, a student club, and subsequently graced the event "Meet The Author" as the esteemed Chief Guest. He delivered an enlightening talk on the subject of textbooks and textbook writing. The presence of Professor S.S. Bhavikatti was a true blessing for both students and faculty members. In recognition of his significant contributions to the field of engineering, the college honored him on this special occasion. The event was organized by Dr. Yajneshwaran B, HOD-Civil, Dr. Sreya M V and Ms. Vishikha Keshava, Convenors, Dept. of Civil Engineering. SHILPA serves as a platform for students to exhibit their talents and proficiency in model-making within the laboratory, enabling them to create more realistic models beyond the confines of the lab. Prof. S S Bhavikatti expressed admiration for the various models showcased in the museum, including the Christ the Redeemer model, the Colosseum, the Great Wall of China, the city of Petra model, the Pyramid of Giza model, as well as the models of residential and rotating buildings created by civil engineering students. Around 200 students and many faculties from various streams of engineering attended the talk by the Chief guest followed by the SHILPA inauguration. The interaction between the Chief Guest and the attendees proved to be highly captivating, as he shared his personal experiences and insights on the art of crafting textbooks. The session was incredibly fruitful and provided students and staff of SJEC with a memorable and valuable experience. Professor Bhavikatti's suggestions and words of wisdom to the students and faculty members were truly remarkable. Later on, he visited the laboratories and research facilities within the Civil Engineering Department, where he expressed his admiration for the ongoing research endeavors in our department. Additionally, he made a special visit to the library at SJEC and left his signature on his own textbooks, creating an awe-inspiring moment for all those present. Those moments were truly remarkable and filled with great admiration.
