On the 7th of March 2024, third-year Civil Engineering students along with their faculty supervisors, Dr. ESTR Chandra Sekhar Bhojaraju, Dr. Prakash K G, and Ms. Pranamya K, embarked on a transformative educational jouey to NIRMITHI KENDRA located in Surathkal. The primary objective of this visit was to delve deeply into the realm of cost-effective construction methods and the integration of precast members, aligning theoretical knowledge with practical applications. NIRMITHI KENDRA, renowned for its pioneering efforts in promoting sustainable building practices, provided an enriching platform for exploration and discovery. Throughout the visit, students actively participated in live demonstrations, witnessing firsthand the utilization of alteative construction techniques such as stabilized mud blocks and compressed stabilized earth blocks. Engaging with compelling case studies showcased the real-world applicability and success stories of these innovative methods. Moreover, the intricacies of precast member fabrication and their role in expediting construction processes were thoroughly examined, emphasizing their potential to revolutionize traditional building practices. Interactions with seasoned experts offered invaluable insights into haessing indigenous resources and fostering a culture of innovation to address pressing housing challenges while ensuring environmental sustainability. This immersive experience not only expanded students' knowledge horizons but also ignited a passion for embracing eco-friendly practices and pioneering change within the field of Civil Engineering, thereby equipping them with the tools and inspiration needed to become future leaders in sustainable construction.
