A technical talk on “Plastic Waste Management’ was hosted from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm for first-year engineering students at Spoorthi Hall. Dr. Nishitha D’Souza, Assistant Professor welcomed the resource persons Ms. Rita D’Souza and Ms. Nikeetha Fernandes. The floral welcome was done by Dr. Ramananda H S. Later, the resource person addressed the significance of the topic, “Plastic waste” (PW) as one of the most rapid-growing waste streams in municipal solid waste all over the world. Further, she added that, India has become a global player in the plastic value chain and can create a significant burden on the overall waste management system, which requires an in-depth understanding of the scenario and pathways that can mitigate the crisis.
After the technical session, students were engaged in some activities. The resource person demonstrated the plastic bottle compaction by using finer or microplastics. Later, some places where these compacted bottles are used were shown to the students. The students showed active participation which was addressed by the resource person as a positive response. Finally, the session was concluded with the facilitation of the resource person by the faculty coordinators Dr. Nishitha and Ms. Shruthi Vishwajith.
