The Department of Intelligent Computing and Business Systems (ICBS), has organized a webinar on “Behind the buzzwords: Practical roles in Data Science & Engineering”, for students of 5th sem CSDS on 27-09-2025 at 01.30-02:30 pm in association with NEXUS, the Student Association club. Mr. Mohammed Asif, Technical Architect - Data & Analytics, TCS, Finland was the resource person for the program. The objective of this webinar was to make the students aware of the diverse career opportunities in Data and AI, demystify industry buzzwords, and gain clarity on practical roles such as Data Science and Data Engineering.
The session has explored the real-world aspects of data-related professions and the collaborative nature of the data product lifecycle. It begins by contrasting the hype and reality surrounding data science, then outlines the key stages of the data lifecycle—from planning and collection to processing, analysis, modeling, and business intelligence reporting. The talk highlights major data roles: Data Engineer (foundation builder using tools like Python, Spark, and Airflow), Data Scientist (problem solver skilled in ML and analytics), Data Analyst (storyteller using SQL and visualization tools like Power BI), BI Developer, and ML Engineer. It concludes with guidance on career preparation—emphasizing project work, identifying one’s interests (coding, statistics, or visualization), and developing broad knowledge with deep expertise in one area.
All the students from 5th sem CSDS and some interested students from other classes also attended the session. Dr. Saleena T.S was the faculty cordinator for the event.
