CSE: CIPHER AND CSI INAUGURAL 2017-18

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at SJEC inaugurated the activities of their Department Students Association CIPHER and CSI-SJEC Chapter for the academic year 2017-2018 on 18th September 2017 at 11.00 a.m., in the Kalam Auditorium of Academic Block–II.

The inaugural function was compered by Ms. Lasya Hegde and the event commenced by calling upon the College Choir to invoke God’s blessings through a prayer song which was then followed by a Welcome Dance. A power point presentation of the Annual Report of CIPHER 2016-2017 was presented to the gathering. Dr Udaya Kumar Reddy, Professor and Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NMAMIT -Nitte was the Chief Guest of the programme. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director–SJEC presided over the function. Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director-SJEC and Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal-SJEC, were the Guests of Honour. Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal & HOD- CSE, M. Smitha V George, Staff Coordinator-CIPHER, Ms Renuka Tantry, Staff coordinator-CSI, Ms Deeksha S Alva, President-CIPHER, Mr Manjesh Guluwadi, President-CSI, were also present on the dais.

Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal & HOD-CSE welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering after which the programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. The Chief Guest inaugurated CIPHER Association for the year 2017-18 innovatively by displaying the word CIPHER via an App developed by 3rd and 4th year students on a rotating LED display based on the concept of Arduino and POV which was then followed by the display of CSI plaque to symbolically inaugurate the CSI Student Chapter of SJEC. The roadmaps of activities planned by CIPHER and CSI for the current academic year were presented by Ms Deeksha S Alva, President-CIPHER and Mr Manjesh Guluwadi, President-CSI, respectively. Mr Shawn D’Souza, Secretary-CIPHER read out the names of meritorious students for their outstanding performance in the previous year and also the Faculty achievers, who were then honoured by the Chief Guest. Students who came up with most creative masquerades and those who technically described themselves innovatively were honoured too. Principal, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis addressed the gathering with his inspiring words and congratulated the students for securing good results each year. The Chief Guest, Dr Udaya Kumar Reddy encouraged the students to participate in a variety of competitions and tech-fests and procure experiential leaing in the form of projects and inteships. He described the importance of Computer Science as a profession. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director-SJEC delivered the Presidential address wherein he motivated the students to focus on their goal and reach greater heights. The honourable Chief Guest was felicitated with a memento presented by Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza. The formal event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms Fiona Saldanha, Vice President - CIPHER, followed by the College Anthem.

An informal function was conducted by 3rd and 4th year students to welcome the 2nd Year students into the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Games were conducted for students and faculty as well. The CIPHER inaugural function concluded with a flash mob act followed by baila.
