The IEI Association of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a talk for the II year CSE students on ‘Engineering and Innovation’ by Dr Pooalatha G, Associate Professor, Department of Information & Communication Technology, Manipal University on April 13th , 2019 at Bishop Aloysius Paul Conference Hall, Academic block – II from 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. The aim of this talk was to show some direction to the second year engineering students of the Department of CSE on why it is important to have an innovative mindset, how to identify problem statements, the sources available for the same, how to proceed further when there is an innovative idea, what opportunities/support is available to the students to take an innovative idea further to implementation.
The talk began with Ms Anusha M M, Assistant Professor in the Department of CSE and Department Coordinator for IEI-CSE welcoming the gathering and introducing the resource person Dr Pooalatha G to the gathering. Dr Pooalatha interacted with the students on how to foster creative research, the benefits students involving in research have, the basics of research, types of research, ethics involved in research, how to identify appropriate sources to publish the research done and the tools available to check for plagiarism. Dr Pooalatha shed light on what differentiates discovery, invention & innovation and how to cultivate an innovative mindset. Dr Pooalatha guided the students on the sources of problem statements, financial support available for the students for their innovations, patenting and research inteships. Dr Pooalatha also inspired the students by talking about the examples of innovations around us and how the smallest of innovations makes a difference.
The session ended with the Coordinator of the IEI Association for the Department of CSE, Ms Anusha M M proposing the vote of thanks.
