Faculty Research Conclave 2022

Faculty Research Conclave 2022 was organized from 10 to 11 Sept 2022 by the Office of Dean - R&D and Research and Facilities Group in association with Department of Computer Science and Engineering SJEC. The sessions were held in Spoorthy Hall (7th Floor AB-III block) on both days.

About 25 Research Supervisors from SJEC presented about their ongoing research activities. The presentation was mainly focused on scope for interdisciplinary research/collaborations from other Departments. About 85 faculty have actively participated in the Research Conclave 2022. The Conclave gave an opportunity to participants to know the research opportunities in collaboration with the other departments in the college.

The Research Conclave 2022 also included a Poster Presentation and Competition where at least one research scholar under each supervisor was given an opportunity to present his/her research work in the form of a poster. About 20 research scholars of SJEC presented their posters and the presentation was evaluated as per the given rubrics by a team of experts, which included the inteal judge Dr Vincent Crasta and the exteal judge Dr Shashikanth Karinka from NMAMIT Nitte. The winners of the poster presentations were I Prize - Mr Swaraj Lewis, Research Scholar, Mechanical Engineering and II Prize Ms Silma Pinto, Research Scholar, MBA Department.

A good feedback was obtained by the participants about the Faculty Research Conclave 2022.

• Opportunity to interact with other researchers and showcase our research findings to others and exchange of ideas. 
• The Research Conclave provided an opportunity to show case our current research work and to interact with co-researchers and explore the possibilities for multi-disciplinary research 
• A few new research ideas were absorbed. Few speakers have given such information in their presentation which would help the new research minds. 
• I gained the information on the research activities that is happening across the disciplines of SJEC. It will be helpful in order to collaborate with the right person.
• Helped to identify the trending research problems in various fields Gained awareness on various research methods and the process of the research work

Sample Feedback on "List specific comments to improve the Research Conclave in future” are: 

• Emphasis should be given on research outcomes from research supervisors.
• It would be better if the speakers talk about more on what was past, the current and in future how it will, in their areas. Also idea sharing with 1:N in the conclave might help to contribute more to the research with pros and cons in that novel work.
• Department specific Conclaves could be held.
• Include research scholars (research students) oral presentation also.
• Audience from various disciplines may not be in a position to understand the specific topics of a discipline. It would be better to stream line the presentations/present some inter-disciplinary research topics in order to get more attentions from the audience.
