The SJEC AICTE IDEA Lab and Dept. of CSE in association with the Research and Facilities Group organized Three-day Skill Development Program (SDP) on Scientific Paper Writing and Publishing during 21-23 September 2023.
The three-day SDP was inaugurated on 21/09/2023 at 9:30 am. Dr Harivinod N, Convener, welcomed the gathering. Dr Manohara M M Pai, Senior Professor, MIT Manipal was the chief guest. He highlighted the importance of innovation and research. Dr Rio D'Souza, Principal is the guest of honour. Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, Assistant Director gave the presidential remarks. Dr Sharun M, Co-Convenor, presented the vote of thanks.
A total of 45 participants from different parts of Kaataka participated in the SDP and attended the sessions.
Day 1: 21/09/2023, 10:00 am-5:00 pm - Scientific Paper Writing, Literature Survey, Methods, Results, Discussion
Resource Persons: Dr Manohara MM Pai, MIT Manipal, Dr Radhika M Pai, MIT Manipal.
During the moing session, Dr Manohara M M Pai is spoke about the various key aspects related to research, including the discovery of ignorance, innovation, and commercial values. The session was very effective were the participants clearly understood the different processes under research. The session summarized the following: world view, resource approach, literature Survey, research paper writing, selection criteria for research etc.
Post lunch session was handled by Dr Radhika Pai. She explained the structure of research paper and different phases of research. Conceptual framework development and literature review was clearly delivered. After a Tea break session was continued with complete guide for writing a scientific paper. The session concluded with a question and answer session and a note of thanks to the resource person.
Day 2: 22/09/2023, Session 1, 9:30 am -11:00 am - Mendeley - Reference Management Software
Resource Person: Dr Venkatesh Babu K P, Dept of Mathematics, SJEC.
Dr Venkatesh explained how to create an account in Mendeley, and using of sciencedirect website to fetch the metadata. Extraction of information from the Mendeley software and the steps to add author, paper, joual for the software were explained. The participants could able to handle their account in Mendeley by adding citation's.
Day 2: 22/09/2023, Session 2, 11.30 am-1:00 pm - Joual Finder Tools
Resource Person: Dr. Felcy D' Souza Librarian, SJEC
Dr Felcy S Souza explained the importance of publication. There are different criteria for selecting a right Joual and tools, she explained how to use scopus and open-source database for joual finder. Impact factor verification and IRINS creation was also delivered for the participants.
Day 2: 22/09/2023, Session 3, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Article Writing using Latex
Resource Person: Dr Harivinod N and Dr Shrisha H S, Dept of CSE, SJEC
Dr Harivinod N spoke about the structure of LATEX doxument and demonstrated a simple document as an example. The session was interactive and the participants leat about LATEX editing using overleaf tool. Dr Shrisha, he took an example of article and participants could able to edit the paper using latex.
Day 3: 23/09/2023, Session 2, 9:30 am - 11:00 am - Research Methodology
Resource Person: Dr Shreeranga Bhat Professor & HOD, Dept. of ME, SJEC
Dr Shreeranga Bhat started the talk by defining research as a systematic investigation or inquiry aimed at discovering new knowledge, solving problems, or expanding existing knowledge. He highlighted on what is research. method vs methodology, research frameworks and types research methods
Day 3: 23/09/2023, Session 2, 11:15 am - 1:00 pm - Data Visualization Tools
Resource Person: Dr Venkatesh Babu K P, Dept of Mathematics, SJEC.
The session started with plotting the graph, further continued by statistical analysis and digitizer. Participants explored about graphs and they could able to handle customization with their graph.
Day 3: 23/09/2023, Session 3, 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm - IPR - Patents
Resource Person: Dr Purushothama Chippar, Vice Principal, Dean R&D, SJEC
The session was a comprehensive event that delved into several critical topics, including types of innovation, strategies for implementation, copyright enforcement, and the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) procedure for obtaining patents. This search report will focus specifically on the discussion regarding "Prior Art" and its significance in the context of patents and intellectual property.
Day 3: 23/09/2023, Session 4, 3:15 pm - 4:30 pm- IPR - Copyright & Industrial Designs
Resource Person: Dr Vijay V. S. Dept. of ME, SJEC
The session focused on the meaning of copyright, authorship and ownership, and the adaptation and translation of copyrighted works. The session concluded with a Q and A session and a note of thanks to the resource person.
