A one day industrial visit to KPTCL, 220KV substation near Kavoor was organized by the E&E department (EELS association) for the 4 th semester students on 9 th September 2022. A group of 20 students visited the 220 KV / 132 KV / 33 KV / 11 KV substation. Faculty members Ms Bharathi Rao, Mr Franco Menezes from the department of Electrical and Electronics accompanied the students.
Er Krishnaprasad Pai from KPTCL provided lot of information regarding the substation. He informed that duplex transmission lines of 220 KV are supplied from kemar to this substation. Students were introduced to practical knowledge on substation layout. Students observed the layout of GOS, insulators, circuit breakers, current transformers, potential transformers and transformers and other substation components which form the main part of the substation. The KPTCL official also explained about the layout of control room, battery room and SCADA system. They also had a glimpse of the single line diagram of the substation. The industrial visit gave an insight into the practical aspects of transmission and distribution of electrical power to the students.
