Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in association with EEELS had organised an Industrial visit On 28th April 2025. 49 students from the 6th semester of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and three faculty members Dr. Ajithanjaya Kumar M K, Dr. Subramanya K and Ms. Chaithra Shetty visited Varahi Power Plant, located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical insights into the operation of a hydroelectric power generation plant.
The students were briefed about the working of the plant, including the functioning of the dam, penstocks, turbines, and generators. They also visited the control room to observe how automation and monitoring systems manage the entire power generation process. The visit allowed students to understand the integration of mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering in power plants and the challenges involved in hydroelectric generation.
The plant experts answered students’ queries, enriching their knowledge about the technical aspects of power generation and maintenance.
Overall, the visit was highly educational and helped students gain valuable practical exposure to the field of renewable energy.
