The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association with Samarthya and Sceptix Club successfully conducted an SDP titled “Circuit Design Using KiCad & Basics of GitHub” on September 27-28, 2024, in the Kalam Auditorium, for 3 rd -semester ECE students. A total of 135 participants attended the sessions. This SDP featured two main sessions aimed at equipping students with essential skills for both version control and circuit design. The first session, held on September 27, focused on the “Basics of GitHub” and was led by members of the Sceptix Club. During this session, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of GitHub, one of the most popular platforms for version control and project management in the tech industry. The resource persons guided students through the process of creating GitHub accounts, emphasized the importance of understanding version control concepts, and demonstrated how to manage repositories effectively. They also covered collaborative aspects of GitHub, such as linking projects and working together on shared code, which are critical skills for both academic projects and future careers.
On the second day, September 28, hands-on sessions on “Circuit Design Using KiCad”, was led by members of the Samarthya Club, who provided participants with in-depth, step-by-step instructions on utilizing KiCad, an open-source EDA software. Students learned how to create PCB footprints and gained insights into the PCB design process. The session included practical demonstrations using KiCad’s schematic and layout editors, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-time. The resource persons assisted participants in designing and simulating their circuits, offering valuable practical insights into the complexities of real-world electronics
design.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Glenson Toney, Mr. Radhakrishna, and Dr. Aldrin Claytus Vaz, Assistant Professors in the ECE Department. Both the sessions concluded with engaging Q&A sessions where students actively participated, seeking clarifications and deeper understanding from the resource persons. The SDP assisted the students with skills in both version control using GitHub and PCB circuit design using KiCad, providing a solid foundation for their future academic projects and professional endeavors in the field of electronics.
