Orientation Program for 3rd and 4th year ECE students

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, organized "Elevate 2025", an orientation program for the 3rd and 4th-year ECE students on 4th August 2025 at the Kalam Auditorium from 9:15 AM to 12:30 PM . The program aimed to provide students with an overview of key academic, professional, and developmental aspects they will encounter for the academic year 2025-26, under the guidance of various faculty members. A total of 210 students participated in the program.

The session began with a Welcome and Departmental Address by Dr Dayakshini, Head of the Department, who emphasized the importance of active participation in academics and co-curricular initiatives. She highlighted the department’s vision for student growth and success.

Dr Shama B N followed with a session on Autonomy Guidelines, where she explained the flexible structure of the autonomous curriculum. She encouraged students to take ownership of their learning and utilize academic freedom responsibly.

In the NBA Awareness session, Ms Chaitra U R provided insights into the importance of NBA accreditation and its quality benchmarks. She explained how students’ academic performance and participation are vital in the accreditation process.

Ms Aswathi T elaborated on the Mentoring system, explaining how it supports students both academically and personally. She stressed the significance of regular interactions between mentors and mentees for overall development.

Ms Padmini Bhat, who introduced students to NPTEL, an online learning platform, conducted the session on MOOC Orientation. She motivated them to pursue relevant courses to stay updated with industry trends and gain academic credits required in the curriculum.

Ms Reshma K J delivered the session on Internships, emphasizing their role in providing industry exposure and practical experience. She guided students to identify the appropriate internship opportunities as per the VTU norms; making internship more skill oriented than mere a certificate.

In the Placements session, Dr Aldrin Vaz and Ms Florence Nishmitha explained the training & placement policy of SJEC, the recruitment process, and employer expectations. They advised students to begin preparing early and make use of college placement resources, which is provided through extra technical sessions.

Mr Vijay Ganesh P C spoke on Projects & Innovations, highlighting the need for creativity and problem solving in engineering. He encouraged students to focus on sustainability aspects of projects mapping it to suitable SDGs which paves way for better funding opportunities.

The program was coordinated by Dr Dayakshini, Ms Florence Nishmitha, Ms Vinitha Pasanha. It successfully set the stage for academic and professional planning.
