The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, in collaboration with the Research & Facilities Group, organized a series of sessions aimed at enhancing research activities and raising awareness about the importance of research, particularly among faculty members and research scholars. Below is a brief report on each session conducted.
Session 1: Effective Use of LaTeX for Technical Writing
The session was led by Dr. Aldrin Claytus Vaz, Asst. Prof., Dept. of ECE, SJEC, on 14 February 2025, 2:00 PM to 4:45 PM, at the DSP Lab, AB-1 (Room 1220), who provided valuable insights into the use of LaTeX for professional and academic document preparation. The session covered essential LaTeX commands, document structuring, citation management, and best practices for writing technical reports, research papers, and theses. Faculty members, research scholars, and students actively participated in the session, engaging in hands-on exercises to reinforce their understanding of LaTeX. The session was coordinated by Dr. Dayakshini and Mr. Glenson Toney.
Session 2: Unlocking Research Funding: Opportunities and Strategies
In collaboration with the Institute of Engineers-India (IE(I)), SJEC Student Chapter, this session was organized on 08 March 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Dr. Kishore Kumar T, Prof. & Head - CTL Head, NIT Warangal, was the resource person of the session. He provided valuable insights into securing research funding, covering topics such as national and international funding agencies (ICMR, SERB, DST, MEITY, and private organizations), available grants and fellowships, effective proposal writing strategies, aligning research with funding priorities, and the importance of interdisciplinary and industry collaborations. Faculty members and Research Scholars actively participated in discussions, gaining clarity on various funding opportunities and best practices. The event was well-organized and successfully coordinated by Dr. Dayakshini, Dr. Jennifer C Saldanha, and Dr. Aldrin Vaz, making it an enriching and informative session for all attendees.
Session 3 & 4: Building Research Excellence: Literature Reviews and IPR Strategies
Two insightful sessions on “Building Research Excellence: Literature Reviews and IPR Strategies” was organized on 14 March 2025 from 2:00 PM onwards for faculty and research scholars.
The first session, “Exploring Academic Sources: Tools for Effective Literature Review and Research”, was led by Dr. Purushothama Chippar, Vice Principal & Dean-R&D, SJEC. He provided a comprehensive understanding of literature reviews, emphasizing their role in research, techniques for efficiently locating academic sources, and methods to assess the quality and relevance of research articles. Participants also learned strategies to structure research findings effectively.
The second session, “From Idea to Protection: Patents and IPRs for Researchers”, was led by Dr. Arjun Sunil Rao, Asst. Prof., Dept. of ECE, MIT Manipal. He covered the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the importance of patents, criteria for patentability, drafting patent claims, and the step-by-step process of filing a patent. The session provided practical insights into protecting research innovations.
Both sessions were interactive and well-received, with participants actively engaging in discussions and gaining valuable knowledge. The event was effectively coordinated by Dr. Dayakshini, Dr. Aldrin Claytus Vaz, and Mr. Glenson Toney, ensuring smooth execution. The sessions proved to be highly beneficial in enhancing research skills and awareness among faculty and scholars.
Session 5: Role and Significance of Imaging Techniques in Routine Clinical Evaluation
The session was led by Dr. Anitha H, Professor, Department of CSE, MIT, Manipal, an esteemed researcher, on 24 March 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM for faculty members and research scholars.
The session provided valuable insights into various medical imaging modalities, including X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and PET scans, emphasizing their applications in routine clinical evaluations. Dr. Anitha discussed recent advancements in imaging technologies and their role in improving diagnostic accuracy, early disease detection, and treatment planning. Participants also gained knowledge on interpreting imaging results, understanding clinical case studies, and integrating imaging techniques into routine medical practice.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Dayakshini, Ms. Aswathi T, and Dr. Aldrin Vaz. The event proved to be a significant learning opportunity for faculty and research scholars, enhancing their understanding of imaging techniques in the medical field.
