Workshop on Effective Novelty Search Organized for Final Year ECE Students

 

The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering hosted a workshop "Conducting Effective Novelty Search" on the 12th of October, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the Spoorthi Seminar Hall. for over 60 final year ECE students. The workshop was guided by Dr. Venkatesh Babu K. P, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics. Dr. Venkatesh Babu K. P, well-versed in the domain, assumed the pivotal role of a resource person for this engaging and informative session.

The primary objective of this workshop was to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to conduct an efficient prior art search and how to disce the novelty of their projects, a crucial aspect in the field of electronics and communications engineering. Dr. Venkatesh Babu K. P commenced the session by illuminating the audience about the paramount importance of patentability criteria and the critical factors that determine whether an invention or innovation qualifies for patent protection. He also emphasized the significance of prior art searching and elucidated the classification of patents, providing valuable insights into the procedural steps necessary for effective search strategies. Furthermore, Dr. Venkatesh Babu K. P provided hands-on experience in conducting patent searches for the students' final year projects, ensuring practical knowledge transfer.

Ms. Deepthi S. R and Mr. Glenson Toney, both Assistant Professors, adeptly coordinated the event. The workshop proved to be an invaluable resource for final year ECE students, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct effective novelty searches for their innovative projects.
