Industry Interaction Session: "Indian Banking - Structure and Trends" by Mr. Raja BS

On August 20, 2024, the Department of Business Administration, in collaboration with the Library and Learning Group (LLG) of St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore, organized an industry interaction session titled "Indian Banking-Structure and Trends." The session, held at Spoorthi Hall, AB III, featured Mr. Raja BS, General Manager-Operations at Karnataka Bank HO Mangalore, as the resource person.

The session began with a warm welcome by Aleena Rodrigues, who introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Raja BS. She highlighted his extensive experience and expertise in the banking sector, setting the tone for an insightful and engaging session.

Mr. Raja began the session by introducing the structure of the banking sector, detailing the hierarchy within banks, and tracing the evolution of banking over time. He highlighted several challenges that banks face today, including asset quality and stress management, fraud, system failures, and gaps in human resource management and knowledge. He then discussed recent trends in the sector, such as the growth of digital banking and the rise of fintech and startups, with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction and retention.

In addition to these insights, Mr. Raja explored banking as a profession, offering valuable perspectives on career opportunities within the industry. He also shared a unique aspect of his passion—drawing cartoons that depict various banking scenarios, which he regularly posts on his social media. The session concluded with a discussion on banking fraud, emphasizing the need for vigilance and continuous improvement in banking practices.

After the session, there was a brief Q&A segment. Aleena Rodrigues expressed her gratitude to the resource person, thanking him for his valuable insights into the banking sector. Dr. Anjali Ganesh coordinated the program.
